reverse light switch problems advice please

Post by mickeyflyn »

fitted a new switch to my 1.9 water cooled as no reverse lights. now when you put it into reverse the reverse lights flash once instead of staying on as if the switch is being passed over by whatever pushes it from inside the switch housing. any ideas anyone ?

Try removing or using a thinner washer under the switch. If you're unlucky, you may have one of those cheap switches (thanks GSF) where the terminals move or work loose. I had one of those and had to use super strength superglue to stop them moving followed by a coat of sealant/varnish to keep the water out. Worked ok after that but the quality was either poor or the guy at the end of the line checking them had nipped out for a fag.

No that would be true as not all vehicles had them. I do know howerver that fog lights if fitted (even if not originally) must work - ie if you added one, it should work or its a fail. It would seen sensible to bring reversing lights into line with fogs now, but there you go.
