Coolant Top Up Tank - what type of hose clamp?

Post by noggintom »

Hi all,

Just replacing the tube between the darlek cap on the coolant expansion tank and the top up tank. I am having trouble getting the hose clamp off the old tube where it connects to the top up tank. What type of clamp do they use?? Access is a bit fiddly and the bottom of the clamp looks crimped together. I have tried attacking it with various pliers and mole grips but cannot get it free. Any ideas?

This is the last stage of my thermostat swap and coolant change - i couldn't get all the air out of the system....after some studying i realised there was a hole in the tube between the two coolant tanks  Didn't think to look there....

Thanks

Tom.

It probably is one of those evil crimp-together clamps. Hacksaw o'clock, and replace it with a proper jubilee clip. They're only used because they're cheap on the assembly line.

A-ha! Hacksaw it is then.....thought that's what it looked like, just hoped they had put something easier to get off on there. The crimped bit is at the bottom which makes access a bit harder.... at least the end at the Darlek cap has no hose clamp.

Will be replacing with something a bit more user friendly!

Thanks for the help.

Tom.

p.s. Haven't recovered from the pain of getting the VW ones off the coolant hoses yet and that was before xmas!!

unless the hose is really short, cut the hose close to the cap, try to avoid cutting the spout,
then you can undo the cap an get eaiser access.

Thanks guys,

Job done with Mr Hacksaw. Even after cutting the crimped bit off it still needed more (access was difficult to cut at the correct angle). The hose is quite thick so just sawed straight through it in the end.

Thanks all.
