re-spray the same colour or change??

Post by jakeyg »

Hi everyone im Jake,Just having all the mechanical stuff sorted at the garage on my t25 and its geting very near for mot now.Had it for over a year and couldnt wait to get to this point but as we know its not cheap!Next step is to get it resprayed, ive had a quote for £1500, does this seem resonable?Bodyworks in very good condition really so no major prep work, also is it best to keep its original colour value wise or is that not an issue?Any feedback will be appreciated Thanks :)

If you're changing colour, then consider all the bits of bare metal inside. Are you stripping all the interior out? Engine bay? That's all the stuff that'll glare with a colour change unless you do it properly.

If you are (and, at that price, I guess not), or it's already been colour-changed and collar and cuffs don't match, or if you really don't much care, then - soddit. Go for a colour you like.

As Adrian says, if for ninstance your van was whait then done corrctly you can get away with almost any colour change and leave the interior white , but you have to deliniate the areas concerened, with other body colours then you either go contrast or compliment, this restricts your choice somewhat but if your not bothered at the end of the day then any colour any way,

hello there, depends on this quality of the finish you want, how long you want the paintwork to look good, and how deep your pockets are. imo, 1500 to spray something that big is way too cheap. you will probably be treated to a blow over at best. it will look okay for 2-3 years max. are you prepping the van yourself or does the quote include prep and paint? don't under estimate the amount of time that goes into prepping a body; welding and parking dents aside; 90% of the time and effort (and skill) goes into the prep- good jobs always get 'major prep work'. a decent job will cost double what you've been quotedl; and that's bottom end.

re colour changes, your choice but if a shop is offering doing all of this for you at that sort of money then be prepared for the new paint to fade, the old paint to bleed through, or the new paint to laminate. check what paint is on the van already, what solvents, primer and paint they will be using, and that they carry out a solvent test somewhere inconspicuous before they start laying anything on top of 30 year old paint; even if they have sanded the top coat off

don't mean to be negative, but you won't get a good job for that kind of money unless it's a friend doing you a big favour.

have you checked out the rustoleum thread in the wiki on here
