Flashing temp light after start-up

Hi all, my friend has noticed that his temp light on his 1.9 jx TD caravelle has started flashing just after starting the engine eventhough there hasn't been enough time for the engine to even warm up.
Would appreciate any advice on what the cause of this could be or what it may mean etc etc.
Could it be just a faultly or corroded sensor etc etc?

Hi I think it depends on if it is flashing just after start up and then going out = normal .or if it continues to flash= not normal. I think it is low coolant level, if that is the cause the sensor is in the main colant tank( by the battery in a TD) that should be full to the brim at all times and the other tank ( behind the number plate ) is the one that goes up and down with temperature changes. If the light is on due to low coolant you will find the number plate tank is empty ( not good ) and the main tank ( by the battery )is half full. top up using the correct anti freeze type G12 I think ( don't use non approved stuff )as clogs up system.and monitor to see how quick you use it .if you use lots try and find leak
