Aux water pump?

Post by Evsi »

Hi all.

I have used the search function but can't really find an answer. What is the purpose of the auxiliary water pump on the jx TD? Do some come with a water cooled turbo or??

Cheers,

Jon

aux water pump is required to ensure good flow of coolant and runs on (Controlled by 2nd temp switch) after engine switched off to ensure the block (cast iron) and head (alloy) don't suffer from different cooling rates (which they would do otherwise) so helping to prevent head gasket failure :rofl
water cooled turbo 1.6TD is the SB engine fitted to Audis and Golfs

Thank you for that.

I'm guessing that mine has been removed then as i can't find it anywhere. Is it an external unit?

Sorry to drag this up again, but looking at the wiring diagram, the aux pump shares the glow plug +12v feed and then operates when the thermoswitch earths at its designated temperature.

Question is (or questions..), is it a constant +12v to the glow plug relay and is it the thermoswitch in the head that operates the pump?

Thanks folks.

P.S, it was all removed and bypassed, so i'm starting from scratch

Right on both...permant +12v to glow plug relay and aux water pump, and the pump is switched on by the thermostactic switch in the head.
The pump needs a permant 12v so it can work when the engine is off.
I dont think, so I'm not[do I exist?]
