Trip switch not working: dangerous or just annoying?

Post by RecoveringAcademic »

Hi,
New van, newbie, know nothing...... especially about electricity.... oh yes it hurts if you hold it for any length of time.

I connected the mains to the EHU this afternoon for the first time.

In a fit of switch wiggling, I found that the test trip switch for the A/C power supply appears not to be working.
It's the one with the little label 'Test once a month'. Well no matter how much I wiggle, it won't trip. All the A/C sockets are working fine on the van.

I know I need to get it sorted out a soon as is sensible. But is it the kind of thing which I need to do pronto before anything else?
I'd really like to go away next weekend (and so use the hook up) and probably cant get it seen to before then.

Did you test it using the 'test' button and was it 'live' when you tested it? It won't 'trip' if it's not energised

ASAP - and before you use it. The site hook up will have one but there's always the chance that could be dud too so think belt and braces

Probably a bog standard 40A 30mA double pole, DIN rail mounted.

If you don't know what you're doing get someone who does

Not realy a auto electrician you need mate, just a general electrician.

Id be advising you to replace the full board and possibly circuit breakers TBH.

No need for auto electrician. Just a sparky will do unless you want more doing. To be honest. you could do it yourself very easily. Put a picture up and save yourself a few squid.
