have I got he corrct oil filter?? help

Post by nevill3 »

I purchased on oil filter yesterday for my 1.6d cs 1983 non turbo camper yesterday and I was just about to change the oil when I noticed that I have been given a W840/2 Mann filter and my camper has a 940/25 filter on now, my question is is this new one correct and can I use it or do I need to get the same as is on now??? I cannot continue until I get some help....does any one know please??

Thanks OBG, I decided to put off the oil change until tomorrow and swap the filter at my local motorfactors, unfortunately they didn't have the correct one locally but will have it by tomorrow. I gave them my registration number but it didn't show up on their system when I originally got the first filter yesterday. I had made some notes from the Wiki before I went, (Oil specoification, filter number etc.) but inadvertantly copied the details for a Turbo diesel!!! So all my fault. :run

On the plus side, I refitted my Oil dipstick tube with its new O ring and the persistent oil leak that's been there since I bought the camper two years ago has been cured...the best £1.25 I have ever spent. Also I didn't have to force the tube out it just lifted out easily and went back in the same. I was running the engine to warm it before I changed the oil and to check if the leak was cured when I noticed the difference in filter numbers, and was unsure whether the filter that was already fitted was the correct one or if the one I had now could have been used to no ill effect.

Not doing the oil change today gave me time to strip Lorraine's sewing machine to diagnose why it wouldn't sew, to find that it needs a new drive cog which has been ordered and is on it's way.
