Sounds good but once buying a bay how much would it cost to make into the baja capable of what you have in the youtube link?

The one in the youtube clip was built by custom vee dub and the most costly part would have been the subaru engine conversion. The svx engine is difficult to install in the small engine bay and I imagine the cost is steep 10k aussie (less if you do it yourself). It's not necessary to install a different engine to have a capable baja kombi though and the tall gearing is dealt with by installing a 1600 trans. Most install a 2.2 subi engine as it's relatively straight forward and fits snug in the engine bay. Huge tires and the relative light weight + excellent articulation for a van is what makes them so capable. They're still not a 4x4 though and will not go everywhere a syncro will but will overcome most 4x4 tracks and obstacles with relative ease. Here's a link to a site that shows exactly what is done to build a baja kombi. You'll find that most of the work involved is pretty straight forward and inexpensive.

currently I have oldman emu shocks, 2"lift springs, 6.17 trans (front and rear lockers), decoupler+solid shaft, 30x9.5x15 tires, 2.2l subaru engine with modified oil pan, full stainless exhaust, shock extenders, 16"axle conversion with 930cvs all round plus every bearing and seal was replaced. Everything on this van has 10000kms or less on it. I still need to rebuild the trans again and wokr with the steering plus brakes but hopefully that will be the end of it for a while and I can do some real long distance trips.

All hand tools have imperial square drive, just one of those historical anachronisms, like BSP fittings.

I came across a lovely Britool a/f socket set (red/black crackle finish box) that had 1/2" hex drive, must have been an aircraft fitter's? Never seen the like... so I sold it at a show for a princely sum

My bro in law has a truck load of snap on and i think there metric so i can use them. I dont wana get it wrong n snap a bolt or screw up another tool.


Ive been trying to clean my house out and have a skip to chuck the stuff in and ive been having trouble with a bunch of pikey kids who keep knocking on my door wanting to look in the skip. Now the skip has to be taken away a bit earlyer than id like to get then to sod off.
I have pretty much filled it up but what a pain.

I have cctv but the infra red lights arnt good enough at night to see as much as id like. Any suggestions??

I have romany gipsy blood in me but modern travellers are as a group! a bunch of stealing b+$#&"ds.
