Clutch problems
Hi all i am new to the site and could do with a little help. I have a T25 bus that i have converted to a camper, the previous owner put a 16 turbo diesel engine in it ot of a passat. The problem i have is the clutch is very very high and struggles to pull off ,i have replaced the clutch twice thinkn it had got the wrong clutch kit in it.On pull off you really have to rev it to get the van goin, as the clutch is hydrolic i carnt see any adjustment on it.
When the van is moveing it flys the gearing seems very high ,when i took the gearbox out for the first time i noticed the clutch plate looked brand new, so replaced it with a kit form eurocarparts and they had a bit of a job matching the parts ,so i put that in and it was just the same,i then purchased a new kit for a 1.6 vw t25 from them and put that in last week ,but still the same ,i just carnt understand wot the problem is ,is it the gearbox? any help would be great. i am goin try put some pics on tonight . Thanks Tony.

Re: Cltuch problems
welcome fella
you say clutch high?
I will assume you are setting off in 1st gear, ok once you have the van rolling how fast are you going on tickover/idle,
rough idea of speeds through gears 4sp or 5sp
your terminology is taking a bit of understanding is all,

Re: Cltuch problems
As he said ^^^^^I have difficulty in understanding your descriptions.
Are you saying the clutch 'bite' point is high?
The confusing bit is you say you are having to rev the van to pull away....as if 1st gear is too high...
I know this sounds really stupid but are you sure this is not a 5 speed gearbox and you are pulling away in second gear?
Has it still got the original gear knob with the gate markings?
Clutch free play is adjustable at the clutch master cylinder end but very awkward to get to.
Does the clutch slip once engaged and moving?

Re: Cltuch problems
Hi sorry ,i think it is a 4 speed i am unable to ask my frend who i purchased the van from as he passed away and the van was sitting in his drive for five years,he replaced the engine which was a1.9 petrol to a 1.6 turbo diesel. As for pulling off in second gear, that is the feeling i get when i pull off although the van does seem to have four gears, the gear knob just as four speed marked on it and if the gear box was replaced for a five speed he may not have changed the stick assembly,is there any marks on the box apart from the ones i have listed ? many thanks for the replys .

Re: Cltuch problems
Hi ,yes i have bled the clutch and the bite starts to bite halfway I no this may be as stupid question but if the gearbox is a 5 speed would first be in the same position as a normal 5 speed box or would it be a dog leg style first position ,i am based in stoke on trent .Thank you for the replys.
