2.1i T25 Coolant/Antifeeze

Post by pete warne »

Hi everyone
Just found that that my van was billowing steam out from underneath (luckily only after a short trip, so hopefully it didnt damage heads etc) on inspection it turns out there are/were 5 jubilee clips holding the short hose between the plastic pipe from/to radiator and the distribution thingy :) 1 of these clips had rusted through and was hanging off while the others were loose and leaking, hopefully I just need to replace these clips and fill up with coolant again.
What I would like to know is..... does it need a specific antifeeze, it was a greeny colour that came out.
secondly is it common to have multiple jubilee clips on these joints??
Any help will be appreciated
Take care
Pete

There should be NO jubilee clips on pipes
use proper pipe clips where ever you can.

see the wiki regarding anti freeze lots of information in there.

when was the coolant last changed?
I ask because it has a life and leaving it in too long causes damage.
Use only VW G12++ available from GSF or it's equivilant...and it's pink

Thanks for that Kev. I was going to try and find better quality hose clips, maybe in stainless, to try and eliminate this from happening again.

'Jubilee' certainly do several product ranges and one is definately stainless steel.
Other makes also have SS clips available:
