I popped a hose !

1982 1.6 CS


Any observaton welcome

on way home from work the "top" rubber coolant hose came disconnected from the front to back pipe connection in the engine bay.

Will reconnect refill and see what happens later today - if not simply a loose connection what may cause this - ?

Sticky thermostsat ? - (blown head gasket )

Mine did this, it was down to the metal insert in the F2B pipe - it had corroded away.
This combined with a leaky (going) head gasket with pressurised the cooling system enough to blow the hose off.

The guys who fixed it simply put the hose back on over the plastic pipe but made sure that there was a good bit of overlap.

Faulty Dalek coolant tank cap can cause excess pressure and therefore cause hoses to pop off or even burst.

I reconnected the hose filled / bled the cooling system and all seems well so far.


The clutch master cylinder replacement was an easy job too so feeling pleased with myself

The afore mentioned insert prevents the 'plastic pipe' from deforming under the pressure of the hose clip. When the insert moved the pipe deformed and the hose came adrift under coolant pressure. Therefore, it is important that you refix the insert or repair it in some way before 'relying' on the pipe end.
