How much oil

Post by Viv »

Have bought a T25 1600 diesel camper, checked oil before draining to put fresh in and dipstick read minimum. Drained less than a pint (wrong dipstick obviously ) Can anyone let me know the correct amount it needs to put it on Max, this is to include enough for the oil filter as well. Then I can remark the dipstick correctly. Hope you can help, Viv

4.5litre to the max (level surface of course) 15W40 or 10W40 Turbo Diesel oil rather than a standard oil that 'says' also suitable for Diesel engines.

Really should have added.....that with only a pint of oil in the engine it could have been damaged...I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.
You will soon know...lots of smoke/poor performance and excessive oil consumption.

May not be a VW problem but was a Vauxhall one.

If the incorrect oil is used in a diesel--I.E. without the detergent qualities that a diesel engine requires- Then The engine can sludge up and the oil goes pretty solid. Had a MIDI van that only drained about 1 pint of oil but it was not noticed on draining---Put 4 litres of oil in and the engine overflowed out of the filler cap. It took a complete strip of the engine to Get rid of the sludge and no damage was done to the engine. Oil pump and pipes were clear.
Insanity is hereditary---You get it from the kids.

In all my years I've seen a couple like this ....one old LT with the original 4 cylinder Perkins engine that when the sump bung was removed resembled a 'sausage making' machine. The oil was biege and had the consistancy of set custard.
