butterfly is floppy on carburettor

Post by joebrown »

Thank you in advance,1.9 dg
My mechanic tells me the butterfly is floppy, yes this would explain whh it's choking to death and very lumpy,
The question is how do I fix the butterfly is it a spring or something that makes it do it's thing,I've got it booked in for Monday at another garage but thought is this something trivial even I can do,
Please advise me please
Regards joe 1.9 dg

I assume you mean the choke butterfly, not the throttle one below.
You need to remove the automatic choke housing, take note of and mark it's position first. Take the three screws out (the ones in the elongated slots on the RHS of the carb) and remove the housing to check if the bimetal spring is broken. Also check that the white peg is located properly in the square end of the spring when reassembling. This gives the butterfly it's position and tension for correct operation.
