Alternator fan and pulley replacement
Hi all,
I just bought a new alternator for my van but need to swap over the fan and pulley from my old one to the new one (new one is fan/pulley-less). Trouble is I can't work out how to get the flippin' things off of my old alternator, is there a way of stopping the alternator from spinning whilst you work on removing parts from the shaft? I've attached pictures of the parts to this message:
Any help you can offer would be great, need to get the van on the road by the morning ideally.
Tim

Prabably not much help but we used to 'Gun' them off...1/2 inch CP air gun.....I guess your local tyre fitters or garage would do this for a 'drink'.

I hold the alternator pulley with an old belt and a lever with my foot! Never failed yet.

Re: Alternator fan and pulley replacement
Thanks Martin, might try my luck with that first thing in the morning if I can't sort something tonight. Suggestions still welcome...

Re: Alternator fan and pulley replacement
Ta for the tip, but no luck as yet. Tried the belt technique but my belts just keep slipping. Difficult to keep the alternator still, maybe if I can keep it steady it might work.

Re: Alternator fan and pulley replacement
I used a chain on a socket oil filter remover to hold it with a rag to stop the pulley getting damaged.

Re: Alternator fan and pulley replacement
Cheers everyone for your help. I don't have an air gun at home but may have to put it down on my wishlist if I ever have a garage big enough! Just took it to the garage first thing as suggested and they changed it over for me in 5 mins.
