speedo cable removal

speedo cable removal
do i have to take the wheel/hub, brake discs off to get the cable out of the back of the hub or what? Head battered and hands bleeding.help
T25 1985-19D water cooled. owned her for three years now. On second engine, VW Caddy 19diesel.

You don't even have to take the wheel off... Just remove the clip from the outside of the dust cover (if it's still there), and it pulls through from the inside. It's probably hideously stuck with manky grease, though, so giving the back a good clean-up would help. Removing the dust cover helped on ours - and it was a damn good excuse to clean it all up in there and shove some shiny new grease in, too.
