Re: Tow Bar Question
I held back from saying that (waiting for someone else to). My tow bar slides into my rear chassis and is secured in place with 4 x 12mm bolts, and the sections that slide in are in line with the rest of the tow bar, not perpendicular to it.

Re: Tow Bar Question
it could have been made to fit the outside of the chassis legs and the bolts go through it and into the bumper irons, need longer bolts though , either way if you do get it to fit I wouldnt really be wanting to tow anything with it as the desigh, sic, is such that the angles are all wrong for transfering the loads,

Re: Tow Bar Question
Thanks for your thoughts, much appreciated.
The person I acquired the tow bar from had a CU Engine on his bus.
I have come across this on google:
http://www.volkszone.com/VZi/showthread.php?t=552708
This guy was selling the exact same tow bar for a T25 and on the same post selling a Back Box for a T25 CU Air-cooled.
Am I right in assuming that the CU Code refers to a 2L Engine early model T25 - same as mine?
I do agree that the design is a little weird and other than the link above I haven't been able to source any more information.
If it stops raining/snowing I'll throw myself under the bus and have another look and see if I can figure it out.
I had planned to fit it and attach one of those Tow Bar mounted bike racks as opposed to pulling any significant load.
Thanks again

Re: Tow Bar Question
oh it dont matter which engine you have fitted, if all you want to do is stick a bike rack on then it would be fine, get upder and see if it will fit outside of the chassis legs and away you go ,

Re: Tow Bar Question
i used to have the same towbar worked perfectly well only downside you had to remove it before removing engine , i think you have a couple of parts missing there should be a part what bolts through the rear valance and 2 sections what slide into the box section where your bumper hangers are bolted to

Re: Tow Bar Question
It's the early Witter version part number VW9A. As faggie says you also need the spacers and spreader bar that goes behind the bumper. The one in GTavalance's picture is the later version VW9C

Re: Tow Bar Question
No, that's what mine's like. The slide in bolted sections are 'in line' with the tow ballgtavalanche wrote:Is it the same as this....

Re: Tow Bar Question
Thanks guys, this is more information than I expected.
I have managed to source the spacer I require. The Spreader Bar that goes behind the bumper, would that be a problem to source, can't seem to see find anything online or would it be possible to fabricate something that would do the job?
Cheers

Re: Tow Bar Question
Yes it was only a bit of 3/16" or 1/4" thick angle iron with the holes in the right place.
This was the fitting diagram.
