Stainless Exhaust
Now that most of my Exhaust is on the A303/M3 its time for a new one...
But which? Anyone got any recomendations found two:
http://www.brickwerks.co.uk/shop?page=s ... ory_id=179
Or
http://www.justkampers.com/shop/t25/ori ... 18723.html
They are quite different, JK is slide fit, but BW is flange. Is the BW one worth an extra £114.60?
Thanks

Re: Stainless Exhaust
The advantage of the Brickwerks one (apart from being made just down the road from me) is that it is a direct copy of the standard VW exhaust. This means that if your headers are alright you can just replace from the knuckle to the silencer (assuming DJ) This can take the financial pain out of an entire swap out.
I am very happy with the Brickie exhaust, and know of a couple that have been around for a while, but have no experience of the JK one. The stainless does dull over time, but for me that is not an issue.
Simon.

Re: Stainless Exhaust
The Baxter stainless system that Max has on her Syncro is a thing of beauty. Far better than eg. the JP one I used to have on my kombi.

Re: Stainless Exhaust
Brickwerks one every time. I have fitted both and there's no comparison. The JK one (JP) leaked from all the slip joints and took me twice as long to seal up as it did to fit.

Re: Stainless Exhaust
I've got a slip-jointed s/s system (possibly JP, old group buy) and the joints are always leaking. I've tried everything from high-temp red silicone to EAP5 and nothing lasts. Mild steel ones always seal better thanks to the instant rust!
If anyone knows of a joint sealant that will work on s/s pipes please let me know...

Re: Stainless Exhaust
I've had a Brickwerks one fitted for almost two years now and I've been really pleased with it. Had I fitted a mild steel replica one I should think it would be getting to the end of its life now...
The Brickwerks one fitted really well, no dramas and all the fittings came with it. Like syncrosimon says, the stainless has dulled although the tailpipe and silencer are as shiny as when first fitted.

Re: Stainless Exhaust
Yep as Andy says, its a lovely piece of kit sitting under my van I did stall at first when I saw the price but it had to be stainless and the Brickwerks system went on a dream and performs well. Note that it doesn't include saddles, which I had to buy in addition from Brickwerks. Hey that was a good advert for Brickwerks, beers are on you Simon!

Re: Stainless Exhaust
Simon was kind enough to let me have the Brickwerks Limited Edition syncro stainless tailpipe #1 of 1, the pipe is held into a little stub by a stainless mikalor clamp, for easy removal.

Re: Stainless Exhaust
Having bought VW Heritage pipes to 'save money' I don't think I'd bother in future. I have no direct vouch for the Brickwerks system but having probably spent a few grand over the years on their other products I don't see why it wouldn't be ideal.
My MV has just blown another pipe, right at the join with chamber 3, and it burns through gun-Gum in about 15miles so it's going to be a full SS system very soon.
So long as the engine is worth spending the money on, it seems a no-brainer!
