Engine mountings (Petrol)

Post by California Dreamin »

Been having this annoying knocking noise for sometime now, only ever appears when the engine is 'STINKING HOT' so figured it must be something expanding and touching around the exhaust and engine mounting area.
Purchased the 4 rear mountings and figured I would replace these despite not being convinced they were the issue but this would give me the opportunity to have a close look at things.

Frankly I was shocked to find only one out of the 4 still intact (the bonding had completely seperated on 3) even though under the weight of the engine they all looked fine.
Just goes to show that looks can be very decieving.

Just a heads up on those 25 year old metalastic mountings...have a CLOSE look at yours sometime soon.

Yep, there's a lot of it about. I changed our's last summer before the holiday which were spongey but intact, 1 this year, 2 others I saw last year and 1 the year before were non-existant, both air and watercooled.
