I will be striping the entire interior of my Autosleeper Trooper ready for welding

First question is what is the best option for removing these rivets baring in mind the refitting? I thought behind the caps would be screws so not sure if I should just drill them out with a metal bit? Or is there a proper way to do this that will make refitting easier?

If I drill them out wont there just be a hole where the rivet was? And so nothing to screw into?

Easiest way to drill them out and re rivet when putting back?

there would be a similar hole where the screw was, makes no difference if you use self tappers
once the rivet head is gone the hole is about 2-3 mm dia, you can get screws upto 5 mm

OK so Saturday was the day I had been dreading, ripping out the interior ready for welding. Sun was shinning so no excuses:

Actually not as bad as I had anticipated. The bit that took the longest was the fridge/sink/cooker unit as it was secured on the inside and under the fridge to the floor.

We have decided to re cover the walls / pop top as the cream carpet material is very dusty and old.

Didn't find too much rust so bit of a relief:

Managed to uncover all the fixings for the pop top that I need to remove for welding the corners if anyone is following my other thread: https://club8090.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=85478 but still a bit confused as it only seems to secure the wooden frame and large springs, not the fibreglass roof itself.

Next step...Off to welders

Can I just butt in and ask a question, as you have a relevant photo up there. Your interior is very similar to mine (Charlie is a 1986 high top), but your van has back rests (and seats too presumably) to the sides of the van (as can be seen in the second photo), mine hasn't got these (although there is a box with no seat cushion on the drivers side between the kitchen and the bed). Did the layout change, or is my van missing something?

Yours is (probably) a Trident. You have cupboards there instead. Your wardrobe is on the same side too (driver's)

Just wanted to check I have the right window rubbers for my fan. When I first got the van 3 years ago with little knowledge I ordered this bundle from just campers:

I have since bought a genuine VW front window screen rubber as they apparently fit better that JK ones.

Can I check the rest are OK for my van? Do I have a panel van? And if they are will the rubber be ok for the blind's type window above the cooker?

Here is my interior. It is the same as yours apart from the extra seating.





I have looked at pics of interiors and mine doesn't completely fit with any I have seen. I wondered if mine was from a cross-over time when they were changing the interior, or just whether bits have been removed.

yes your van is a converted panel van ref the windows.

the 4 rear side windows have the universal rubber that you trim to length.

when fitting do not pull the rubber , this will eventually lead to a gap on the join- just look at lots of campers.

instead try pushing backwards and using as much of the rubber as you can - same for the insert.

Your Autosleeper interior is missing the Alcove seat arrangement.
the bed/seat should be a U shape to allow four people to sit round the table.

not a cross over interior just a version 'sleepers did till 84
