Engines?

Post by Handi »

Ok that last question didn't seem to evoke a response!
What if I ask which engine that fits a T25 diesel, is the best on fuel economy and gives a bit of poke?
And if I were to buy a Lt, which one with which engine?
Anyone have any ideas?
I wonder if there is somewhere locally I can try to get work done. I have tried before but don't seem to hit on the right person. Cheers :idea

KY 1.7diesel if you want ultimate economy, eg 36mpg with a high top, power output 'adequate' (love mine) 1.9 diesel or turbo diesel if you want more power.

AAZ seems to be the engine of choice, out of mk3 golfs iirc. If you google there are some write ups on doing the conversion and you will need some other bits and bobs to fit them.

The only other thing you need to think about is your gearbox. Putting a bigger engine in wont cause a problem but the 1600 box isnt the highest geared one so you wont really go any faster, just accelerate a bit quicker.

Well thank you all,
Blimey there is a lot to take in! I don't understand all the abreviations i.e dg...... AAZ etc
Makes me feel a bit thick, I obviously have a lot to learn!!
As for the alternative engine forum I hadn't realised at that point that it existed so I do beg your pardon
Anyway regarding any work done on my van I have found it difficult locally, one because it's a high top and doesn't fit in all garages, and two most folks round here tend to baulk at the idea of working on T25's and i would have thought it was better to get someone who knew them and liked working on them? AAZ is the engine type.

For example, the standard 1.9/2.1 water cooled petrol (WBX for short)
Engine Code Size in CC BHP
DF 1900 60
DG 1900 77
DH 1900 82
GW 1900 90
SP 1900 73
DJ 2100 112
MV 2100 95
SR 2100 87
SS 2100 93

As for the AAZ engine, AAZ's are not tdi's and as such, aaz engined cars would normally be badged TD.
Golf CL's and GL's mainly, but GL's switched to tdi's a lot earlier. Same goes for Passats. As a contradiction to that there are a few Golfs and Passat circa 94 that are badged tdi, BUt still have an AAZ and are infact TD's.
Seat Cordoba also, but I think these are very rare.
Generally speaking AAZ TD's came in in 92 and phased our around 95.

Further reading be;

As for place near you that will fit a high top, I am sure there is a place in Chesterfield who specialise in VW campers, and there is a place in Loscoe who work on campers (not sure if they just do camper conversions though)have a search on here/google or ask in gen chat.

Hope that makes some sense to you and is of some help.
