My only trouble is you cant always trust someone elses weld + one persons way of getting rid of rust might be different to mine. No offence to anyone. Im just worried coz i dont want to buy something i have to gut and redo.

Oh come off it! Can you actually weld and fabricate? I thought not...
Ask anyone here who's seen my work and what they think of it. I've seen "MOT standard" welding and believe me, it's not all it's cracked up to be.
FYI I have fully photo-documented everything I have done to that bus on this forum; no horrors hiding as it was destined for my wife to use and ferry our kids and dogs about.
I thought that you'd decided on a diesel anyway (currently £1.45/litre and climbing) but now you don't like it 'cos it's a twin slider? OK, I'll take it off the market and get stuck into the bodywork this summer then.
Please yourself. The price will only go up...
And yes Andrew your syncros are all very lovely and shiney, apart from that scabby panel van

Re: Where's Cooper?
I think your missing the point coops, the youngest of these vans are 21 years old. Most of the syncro's have been used as work vehicles, so bodywork has normally suffered. Some of the vans I like the most have a bit of rust here and there, mine does!
S'bullits van has been welded to very good quality. Those nice shiny restored vans you see, won't be welded as nice as that.
And even the nicest unwelded van can have other issues, didn't s'paddy's van have complete brake failure? Nothing against s'paddy, just saying even the nicest looking van can have issues
Twin sliders can be awkward for a camper, but most would just ignore one of the sliders. You can even fit a LHD westy interior in.
BUT, get the van YOU want, if sbullits van isn't for you just say so, you just cant knock his welding really..........but you can say it has a nasty old petrol lump in it

I wasnt making a dig at you. I was just stating in general how can you trust someone elses weld. As i have seen some terrible ones. Well i have been taught by a very very good welder. I can tig weld ,mig weld, spot weld. There the ones im good at. i have fabricated new door skins. Floor framework for my old camper.

The green one now lives in Canada with Andy from Syncronutz and was a 2.1DJ with a single locker and power steering and I bought it back in 2004 from a guy in Salem, Southern Germany. Andy put an upturned boat on the roof, filled it full of furniture and blew the engine up!
The green DoKa isnt mine but belongs to a lad in Athlone who bought it from a German who had it since new and its a really good example with very low mileage with twin lockers, 1.6TD but no power steering
The ambulance belongs to krankenwagen aka David Dunne and is for sale at the moment. Its totally original and rust free, petrol with no lockers and is on my 'to buy' list
The red one is mine and it sits at home, taxed, insured and NCT'd and rarely gets used! I do have another one which will see a welder, not because its rotten but I want to restore it back to being a van as the original owner cut windows into it

Re: Where's Cooper?
Its how your going to use one Cooper. I was out with some mates today and we had three vans between us with an estimated value of £45,000+. A couple of the comments over the CB's were,
"Jesus you just hit the side of that tree" the reply was, "yeh I though I felt something"
CRUNCH!!!! "what was that?, Ahhh its OK he just reversed into a tree"
One thing you didnt hear is, could we swing past a petrol station as we could do with some fuel
You cant be to precious if you are going to use a Syncro properly

Im not looking for a pristine vw. Im looking for a mechanically sound and good body work. I dont mind if it has scrapes dings or dents as log as it isnt a sive and plates welded everywhere. I actually want a vw that looks a bit beaten up!:)
