With there being so many very poor Chinese and East european bearings on sale it pays to get them from someone who uses them himself and knows the quality he is selling:

Just to add, it is well worth paying for the quality as there are a lot of really bad ones out there.

I had my rear wheel-bearings replaced and they lasted only 14,000 miles. They were replaced again but have now started making the same tell-tale noise after an even lower mileage! Should I assume this is a quality issue and make sure I get beter ones this time, or could there be something else wrong that's causing abnormal wear? :?

As above.
Get them from the man that knows - Brickwerks. There are a lot of bearings made of chocolate out there!
