What symptoms should I look for if my CV's are wearing?

Hi all,
I know there would be a 'clicking' from the fronts if they are going...but what about the inner front CV.
Also what are the symptoms for the rears? I have a 'grumbling' or fairly loud 'grinding' noise which I cant locate. It starts about 35mph+ and is steadily getting worse.
I can dip the clutch and the noise doesnt change. I have been in contact with Aidan about this and we both still cannot be certain where its coming from.
But before I take the plunge to take the box out, I wanted to see if it could be something else.
I did think today that the van almost was being 'held back' sort of impeaded.

Would it be worth changing them anyway?? Think tomorrow I'll drop the diff and box oil out and see what that looks like...

Had a similar thing not in a t25 but in my alfa gtv, it was a spent wheel bearing. No play in it and passed an mot but was a real grinding noise, if I put lock on one way it would quieten the noise. I ended up replacing both wheel bearings as still no play but the noise was driving me mad! Worth a check by applying a little lock each way once you can hear the noise?

Thanks for reply. Have already changed all the bearings! Noise is driving me mad but friends are telling me to ignore it....and the wife does!! I think I may change the CV's.....

Dont change them .... regrease them

Can i do fronts the same as this?? How can I tell if they are damaged?? There doesnt seem to be any play in them.

Take all the joints off the van and do 'em in a vice. The grease in them should be lovely and gooey but you might find it going hard so the joints need to be taken off the drive shaft and cleaned. All the parts should be shiny where the balls run but sometimes you can see pitting on a ball and/or track. Make sure you note which way you took stuff off as there is only one way it all goes back together. Gob the grease everywhere and latex gloves are essential !!
