No illumination for light switch Dg1900 1986

Post by maxstu »

Took the dash apart at weekend to replace blown bulbs for heater and a few switches. All successful apart from still no battery light (?)and light switch itself.

Upon investigation for light switch I found it doesnt have wires or bulb leading to interior of switch. Please see photos. So I looked down into the morass of wires underneath dash pod and next to heater control expecting to find two wires and a bulb holder. But nothing at all.

Im guessing this switch gets illuminated too ?

Also what/where should I be checking first to sort out battery light on dash. Have checked blue wire to alternator and is in good condition, and everything is charging well at alt and batteries; just no light when ignition is switched on..... Im not electrically minded so respectfully please keep answers childlike simple. Thanks

Back of switch.

Our country has a law which states that when the rear fog is operated a light must come on in the cab.
other countries don't do this... perhaps this switch is a foreigner :D

Bloody foreigners taking up our lads switch jobs. Will complain to the Daily Heil err Mail !!!

A German switch for a VW so a Aryan piece through and through. Unlike me. Very English in a German/Scandinavian/Welsh way.

That Headlight switch has no illumination. it's solid plastic so the light wouldn't get through to illuminate anything anyway (hence the headlight picture rubs off over time)

Mine (1983) has the same useless hole.

Brickwerks sell a switch that does light up, but the fact that you can see the light from the headlights gives it away that they are on

well l'll be a monkeys uncle. Thanks for that Cruz. It was doing my brain trying to find wiring and bulb holder. Dash lights give clue too! Have you advice for battery light? Cheers Stuart

battery light may be a contact issue in the large plug that connects to the back of the dash pod?
