When are expecting yours back Lloyd?

Are you going standard nozzles and map?

It'll be good to compare the difference between JX and AFN manifold.

hopefully getting it back end of March or beginning of April. Gearbox is in a bit of a back log of a week or so.
i'm keeping standard nozzles and ecu, so no mapping. Don't really see the point to be honest 110 bhp is nearly twice the factory spec as is the torque. Don't think i'll change my mind, as a remap for economy normally effects life of engine.
We should arrange a little pub meet to compare. Really, really want mine back, Want to go camping

Yes, but your mpg will go down due to more fuel being used.

I'm running bigger nozzles and I got 33MPG last fill up. I reckon there are a few more miles that could be gained with very careful driving. But then that would take away some of the drivability.

I'm happy with the results and I don't want to get to get into a loop of trying to achieve better MPG figures by compromising how I drive the van and using the Eber.

We could have a Grease style race for Pinkies if you like! As long as I can be Danny Zuko!

to be honest, i'll probably check the mpg on the drive back from devon. Then never again. As you say, the vans are meant for enjoying. You can get a rough idea on fill ups anyway.
I just want to drive up a hill at 70mph

syncroandy wrote:So long as the TDI alt has a W terminal it should drive the T3 tacho, may need a different size pulley though to bring the reading nearer. There is also the option to adjust the tacho by removing the small paper label on the back and use a fine screwdriver to adjust the pot inside. The TDI ECU as said does put out an 'engine speed signal' for the dash panel insert (cluster) but I think this is probably 5V (and maybe a different freq as well) and won't drive our tachs.

I'm sure I heard that there is a little magic box that can be used with the petrol tacho. But I can't find the info.

Perhaps not. I got this response for Dakota Digital.

Tom,
Due to year of your factory tach we do not have anything that will interface with the factory gauge. The main issue is a ballast resister that is built into the tach that buffers the signal coming from the points on the original engine. The only thing that we could suggest is an aftermarket tachometer and a DSL-1 or DSL-2 tachometer interface.

Thank you,

Or you could run the AAZ alternator and belt set up like is on mine so the rev counter works

As the gearbox is going to Aidan's I am now considering my options of longer gears.

We do a fair amount of motorway miles for our weekends away and where we live is pretty flat. We do visit Wales and other places with similar hills maybe twice a year for a couple of weeks at a time.

With my current tyres and gearing I get 65 mph at 3000 RPM. I find at this amount of revs the engine changes note a little. Sounds nicer at 60mph

I'm thinking maybe .77 or .73 fourth with 3rd to suit. 0.73 would give 76MPH 3000rpm which would be amazing and 0.77 would give 72mph at the same rpm, which is still very good.

What I really don't want to do is over gear it, like it was before. But I think .77 will be okay. Any thoughts on this?
