Westy hi top roof lining replacement

Post by chrisevans »

Having just bought the van with a missing skylight and lots of tank tape and plastic bags, I knew that this might be needed. The panel that sits around the skylight was very crispy so I have removed it and I am in the process of trying to remove the vinyl covering so that I can replace the wood and reattach the vinyl. Anyone tried using a het gun on a low setting to do this. The vinyl is very robust and so far I have got about half of it off cleanly, but the other half has remnant of ply stuck to it. Alternatively has anyone seen and board which is similar to the original ?

I had a similar problem last year when needing to change the panneling due to a skylight leak that damaged the panelling.

The vinyl is very hard to take off as is measuring and fitting a new piece of wood.

In the end I was lucky enough to find the exact part on ebay.de - they do turn up occasionaly but usually as part of a complete set.

I emailed the seller and offered silly money for the one part i needed!

Hope this helps

I have replaced the panel with a non matching but similar shade. Took a while to cut it but I think it fits. SHould really have made a template before attempting to remove the vinyl . I will keep the vinyl for the time when I can be bothered to have a go at removing it
