Just some advice, today changed the gearbox oil, fixed reversing light switch and also washer pump and jets etc. However coming to change the oil it is a 1.6D non turbo westfalia, I am struggling to get out the oil sump plug it is stuck solid, first question am I trying to get out the correct part (eg sump plug) i am trying to gt out the screw/bolt 13mm head as on the picture on link below. the bolt on the right in middle of sump as it is seen in the photo?? If this is ntot the sump plug then where would it be??

If this is the correct sump plug bolt any advice for getting it out as stuck solid and do not want to force it anymore as will start rounding it off??
Many thanks

Yes - thats it.
Advice from me would be to suck the oil out using a pump if it doesnt want to move. It maybe fixed in there for a reason (ie the thread was previously knackered) ?
Good luck

I've got one of these that works well when the oil is warm:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B003G2YV1I/r ... B003G2YV1I
Shove the pipe down the oil dipstick till it hits the bottom of the sump.
Another solution is to remove the oil filler pipe to drain the oil - two bolts and a cardboard gasket.

Does anyone know what the other 'sump plug' is
...in ours it turns but does not withdraw....we very quickly left it alone

Re: Diesel oil change sump plug location
Well I changed the oil, the sump plug is well knackered by who ever did it last well stuck in and well rounded. Anyhow got a small pump and sucked the oil out, the dipstick tube has such a small internal diameter could not get a tube small enough and would have taken ages to get it out, so sucked it up from the sump through the oil filler neck and worked fine, topped it up with good new stuff, Was very easy and no mess. happy days.
But seem to have an oil leak looks like could be the rear crankshaft oil seal, anyone changed one of these on a 1.6D is it easy etc..., tried to get the local VW garage to have a quick look and give me a price, but was told they are to busy to have a quick look to give me a rough price to change and do the cam belt and tensioner too, Ah well will clean the area up and check exactly where the oil leak is coming from first.
Cheers

there easy to change if you know what your doing. dont bother if you've never done a cambelt before. could end in tears!! the seal is a couple of quid but change the the camshaft and intermediate shaft seals while your doing the crank. there all the same seal. GSF are the cheapest and ive done mine last year and my engine is bone dry ever since.
