Hi,
I am trying to figure out some of bits in my engine bay and could do with some confirmation. The vehicle is a 1990 syncro, originally fitted with the JX TD engine. (It now has a 2 litre GTi engine.)
I have retained the electric 'coolant run-on pump' and it's relay (no53) in the engine bay relay box. That is all fine.
In addition the original engine also had an air fan which blew cool air (from the left hand snorkel box) over the turbo itself. It is possible that this is a syncro specific addition. This was controlled by a relay behind the left side tail lights where the fan itself was mounted. Although the fan is no longer in use the relay and wiring are present.
What I am trying to understand is whether this relay also operates anything else and whether removing it will create any problems? It has a constant live and earth connections which I want to use for something else.
Any info gratefully received.
thanks
Garyd

Thanks for that. Do you know any detail of the circuit at all?
I am guessing that the power feed is from the 50 amp glow plug fuse in the relay box. Is it switched by the same thermo switch on the side of the cylinder head that also controls the water pump?

Re: Turbo diesel run-on cooling - wiring
Thanks for the wiring diagrams, Andy. I have the first one (pump) but the second was what I needed.
So, if I take the red lead from terminal 2/30 of the relay and the brown from the fan plug I will get my constant live supply & return.
That's sorted then, thanks guys.
