T25 1.9DG Clutch Parts
Anyone know please where I can buy separately a release bearing and disc, without the diaphragm / pressure plate assembly? All I can find is complete 3 piece kits at around £100.

I find, despite the move by suppliers to tailor purely for fitters rather than old-school mechanics, in reality, providing you know the history of the clutch, you can generally replace entire clutch once, then release bearing and disc the next time followed by complete clutch the next and so on. However, the saving in monetary terms becomes even less generous as time goes on and there is a real trend towards supplying whole units rather than individual parts, all great news for parts vendors who must be rubbing their hands. Added to which, few garages these days have the skills or the inclination to want to actually solve problems - they are becoming plug and play monsters with the obligatory "Sorry mate, your computer has gone - it'll cost about £650. No idea what's wrong with it, but we can replace the whole thing."
Mercdoctor and I were discussing this very subject today. It won't be long before genuine mechanics are completely extinct. After all, many modern trucks can ONLY be repaired by the original manufacturer with vehicles equipped with wi-fi and computer management systems that only report to the people that made them. On top of that, vehicle makers are really raking it in by selling diagnostic systems that cost the price of a house and fitters merely drip-fed updates that if stopped, render the diagnostic tool stone dead. All the rules on 'green' as well as maximising profit are driving this sad state of affairs. You look at the most modern engines and there is almost nothing you can actually 'fix'.

Re: T25 1.9DG Clutch Parts
Baxter sells the release bearing on it's own as do VW
RJES sells the clutch plate 228mm on it's own
LUK supply the parts seperately but you need a decent dealer to be able to get them from them like that
I don't know if the Sachs version (other than the release beaing) is available in bits but personally I prefer the sachs to the luk especially the release bearing which is loads stronger and long lived imho

Thanks everyone for your inputs and words of wisdom. Mine's a 228mm and as you've now advised, seems I can get it from RJES for £45.
By the way, I put a post up a couple of weeks ago asking for recommendations as to what sealant to use between the crankcase halves (yes, I'm doing my own rebuild having found someone who could get my corroded long head studs out), but no-one has responded. I'm going for blue hylomar unless anyone got better ideas - don't want excess RTV silicone stuff bunging up oilways!

I know this is an old post but always replace all 3 parts together and forget Sachs clutches for me all the time no B/Beck not on a T25
the engine has loads of grunt and you need a clutch to match my view >> retired job Mech Fire Service 30 years + good luck Buddie..

Re: T25 1.9DG Clutch Parts
Not 100% with that. If it was for a customer, 3-part every time. However, on mine I rotate it, 3-part one time, friction the next and so on. Never had any probs doing that in 25 years. I just whack a sticker in engine bay to remind me when it was fitted. Fitting a complete clutch is a relatively modern concept in line with parts becoming units rather than being able to replace individual parts. Much of that is more about maximising profits than the longevity or useability of existing parts since there are few if any actual mechanics around now.
