first gear is an absolute b*****D any ideas???????????????

should have included this in me previous post sorry ducks....just changed gearbox from 1.6 diesel box to a 1.9 petrol box,gear ratios are better now but first gear is unbelieveably hard to select,it occasionally flies in but mainly its hit and miss,it seems like you have to push up/left and then seems like it goes in on the diagonal?if that makes sense(bloody annoying!)it was fine before with the old box so any suggestions ducks,i cant let marlady go newquay in it like this

did you change the linkage to suit the new box?

no duck,i just assumed that the linkage was the same,the box came from an 84 n mines an 83,every other gear is fine but first is an absolute pig.......regards
