Post by hulky »

Advice please

I have just had timing belt and aux belt done on my van 1.6 td jx ,the mechanic said the belt i suplied for alternator was 20 mil too short so he said that he had belt wich would fit .i said if its the right size just use it.when i picked it up it run fine on way home ,but went out last night just to move her out of garage and noticed battery warning light was flickering on and of very dimley,so checked alternator belt wich was 1cm from top ajustment with a couple of cm play on the belt.I am planning on changing the belt at weekend to have pease of mind.

Your thoughts

HI, was the engine cold with very low revs? that can sometimes make them flicker. If the light goes out after a few seconds I wouldn't really worry about it. :D

Yes the engine was a bit cold but i had cold start lever out and seems to be fine when cold start is out,and also when you rev a little.I spoke to machanic today and he said the idle may need ajusting as i had second hand injection pump put on at the same time.just Went out to see if it did it again and warning lights stayed off ?
if it happens again i will try ajusting idle.
