T25 Mechanic Needed
Dear All, I am new to this forum and have had a look through but I cannot find any contact details for an experienced T25 mechanic, I have a 1981 air cooled 1600 and cannot get the vehicle in gear properly. I would appreciate any contact details if anybody knows any. Thanks so much in advance as this is driving me mad!

Sounds like a linkage issue ? Does it stay in gear once it's in or does it kick out ? Is it quiet or noisey ? When was the gearbox oil last changed ? What was on the magnet ?
There's a good linkage set-up guide in the Haynes manual btw.

Can you get the gears with the engine off ? The 1600 has a cable clutch, that may need adjusting ? or the spigot bearing in the end of the crankshaft may be failing/failed causing the input shaft to spin and not disengaging the clutch properly.

Thanks Ian,
The gearbox oil was changed recently, had a new clutch slave cylinder. I can get the vehicle in gear with fiddling around, it does not jump out of gear. I have to sort of push it down a bit and it goes in gear easier. What do you mean by the magnet?
Thanks for your help.
David

If you had a new slave cylinder you obviously don't have a cable clutch
The gearbox drain plug has a magnetic probe built into it which attracts any magnetic bits migrating their way round your gearbox ... small amounts of fine filings are normal ... larger parts, bearings, bearing cages etc are not good news.
It definately sounds like a linkage issue to me.
