Re: Syncronutz wheel carrier

Ive had a couple of days spare (or a couple of days away from demolishing our kitchen) so ive made some progress. The flange has been cut off and reversed and a length of 70mm steel tube has been added along with the three outer braces for some longer ones. I do have an issue which needs to be addressed, but ive emailed Syncrnutz to see what they say. Hopefully they'll reply to my email this time!
Ill get some pics tommorow and post em up. :D

Managed to get some pics, as you can see the wheel now fits on fine, however there are a couple of manufacturing faults that need modifying. Bare in mind, if you are buying one of these carriers, and its delivered the same as mine, you'll want to fix it before you use it. :(

Just as well I was taking it apart. Seems to be an issue with the PCD? Yes, my wheels are definately 112PCD!

The bottom bracket is too short resulting in the carrier touching the tailgate. So this needs to be modified. (Advised by Syncronutz to fix a rubber door stop on the tailgate  Thanks for that tip.)

Well if you had sent me a photo showing it that close i would have given you different advice.
Can you send me the measurement of the bottom bracket. Surface face to face not including the catch.

The spindle on the bottom catch has a bit of movement in it. If i fit a carrier in the workshop i also fit a small door stop to take up this bit of movement.
But that is definitely closer than it should be. There should be a gap of about 2cm there.
Send that measurement so i can check and if there is a problem with it being to short ile get a replacement sent to you.

Yes mine went straight on. One call to Russel regarding placement of one of the internal members and that was it. I'm only a lowly wood butcher, not a fitter or mechanic and was quite pleased that it only took me 1.5 hrs

Its a great addition to the camper and will be looking for another for the panel van once I have saved up!

Out of interest, what's the need for the spare to be facing the other way?

I find the cavity inside the wheel a great place to store stuff with a cover on the spare.

Its explained in the first ten posts, although awkward to describe its easier to understand if you saw it. Its only due to the fact that on those alloys, although the centre is bored out correctly for the hub, where the wheel centre cap fits is too small in diameter for the centre tube, and it wouldn't help if you cut out the centre tube because the three posts wont reach deep enough into the wheel. Anyway, I dont have a Gucci fuel can shackles or even hand cuffs to put in it!

Russ, heres a pic of the bottom bracket showing measurements:
