2E/AGG ENGINES
morning all, i know this is an engine question, but it is syncro specific, so, has/is anyone running one of the above in a syncro, who could shed some light on the conversion, i know a few run them on 2wd vans etc. but haven't seen any reference to syncro's, or should i just convert to diesel. thanks for any help regarding this

Re: 2E/AGG ENGINES
GaryD is a bit of a 2E guru, he's got a Syncro, I'm sure there's a long build thread either here or on BY. IIRC he's done some useful tech docs that he's happy to email out on request. I think you'll find a fair bit of info if you search here or on BY..

Re: 2E/AGG ENGINES
thanks for the big build up Andy. You were nearly right but my syncro has an AGG engine not the earlier 2E.
Baldy, as Andy says I am happy to share the info I prepared about what I did and the wiring for the AGG engine. PM me with your email and I will copy them to you.
I would recommend the AGG over the 2E for two main reasons. Firstly they are a later engine meaning they are younger and probably less worn and that parts should be available for longer. Secondly, although the two engine types produce about the same power and torque, the AGG has its torque peak at lower revs and is therefore more suited to the syncro if used at all off the highway.
You mention maybe going diesel instead so presumably yours is currently petrol. Mine was previously diesel and had an AAZ conversion but I found this horribly noisy. The AGG, with a 2.1 DJ silencer is very quiet. Much more refined.
Conversion from diesel is the most simple as the engine blocks are almost identical. (one of the reasons I chose this engine). If you've read the BY threads you will see that quite a few are converting from petrol. This does require the accumulation of many diesel parts (bell housing, engine bars, gearbo input shaft, etc) but generally it remains mainly a bolt in job.
Cheers
Garyd
