Every think your van is listening to you....

Post by California Dreamin »

All this talk of charging systems, split charge relays, Trojan battery setups, Sterling conditioners..I've been busily writing comments and adding to threads.
Anyway, Helga (my 89 Westy) was booked in for her MOT mid week......doing my usual like an expextant dad wearing a line in the reception carpet..BIG thumbs up and a pass without any advisories...HAPPY DAYS!
Then the second I drove out the station the piggin charge light came on permanently

Alternator off and now being rebuilt but I can't help thinking Helga was just being the women that she is...I reet pain in the backside..maybe I've been neglecting her of late and she just wanted to make a point. :rofl

Ive always had my suspicions that these garage monkeys insert gremlins under the cover of an MOT inspection to keep the business ticking over.... looks like I finally have some circumstantial evidence.. ;-)

joking aside who do you use for your MOTing in Nottingham? I've found the no pass no fee place in Netherfield to be pretty accommodating

My first wife had a beetle that had a very tired engine. It had one plug wedged in with a spanner as the thread had gone but it ran around ok. One day she took a passenger who started running it down and within minutes it coughed, spluttered and ground to a halt. Quite mad, she insisted he retracted all that he'd said. He did and it started up and ran fine!

Yes M8...MOT MAX..no agenda as they don't do anything else but MOT's and two of the testers are VW enthusiasts so look at things simpathetically.

Just got the Alternator back £126.00  ...new rotor, new rear casing and regulator brush pack...all cleaned and looking like new, will fit tomorrow.
The rear bearing (slip ring end) had worn the housing oval so needed replacing, the guy at Auto Supplies said I could have got away with the rota but it was pretty worn and I just wanted it 100% so had a new one fitted hence the price (would have been £90). If a jobs worth doing.....
