Hi after leaking seals and other problems am thinking for the money ill have to pay out to put right may as well spend a bit more and get a recon engine. Peace of mind for a while. But where to buy one? Jk seems a bit dear and hearing bad reviews on the vw engine shop, so can someone recommend somewhere. Please
Luke

Re: recommended reconditioned engine shop?
heritage's remtecs probably the best readily available at the moment, new spanish heads with new VW valves in and genuine hydraulic lifters apparantly, they will be the most expensive though and they have failed on supply a few times as they are coming from South Africa
wbx of course, diesel probably AW at Darwin

Ok ill have a look. mines a 1.9 waterbox petrol at the mo. Is it worth putting a 2.1 in?keep it as a 1.9? Update... Well have had a look and they are alot dearer coming in at £2600 + could do a Subaru for that. Hmmmm what to do. What about elite vw. Any one delt with them.?

WaterBoX = wbx

2.1DJ gives much more power than a 1.9DG and you can plug and play straight onto the DG carb/manifold system so no expensive and temperamenkal injection system to faff around with.
Ian
PS you should have an early cooling system on the 1984 DG where-as the DJ will need the oil cooler/warmer plumbing in ... this has been done a few times before ... as has fitting a late cooling system into an early cooling system van.

Haha it was early . Thats my side of the story.
so for a bit more power go for a 2.1 and upgade some of the cooling system.sounds good but more power more petrol. Still have o find a recon at a good price? Or i just wait for a good priced converted engine 25 to come on the maket and just swop over. Then i could put my old engine in doner van sell on and recoop some money. Need to think about this some more
