Petrol syncro v diesel syncro?

I have been looking at both but i really dont know what the difference in fuel consumpsion is.

Can you tell me if having a petrol syncro would cost more to fill the tank then a diesel?

How much would it cost to get a lpg conversion?

Is it possible to to convert petrol engine to diesel?

Are the general up keep costs more for petrol syncro?

Also i know that a friend has run his diesel van using oil. Refinding frying oil is this possible to do with a petrol?

My 2.1 does anything between 19 and 28 mpg, depending on distance and how much of a rush I'm in and how much s***te I have on my roof. Not great but about as good as a 23 year old 2tonne + van can be expected to do. Never driven a diesel Syncro but I like the power that the petrol has.

You cant run a petrol on recycled chip fat. Be careful in a diesel too - make sure the oil's prepared correctly etc.

Syncro upkeep is not cheap. Be careful, don't rush into buying the 1st van you see. Read as much as you can in the wiki etc and if possible, take someone with you to have a look.

Here in Tunisia, there is LPG - apparently. Seen a few taxis with fillers in the wing & sticker in the back window, but not seen a single pump yet.

France, Portugal - no problem.
Italy - about, but had to look.
Spain - very scarce.

Syncro boys seem to love the tdi conversions. but they are big bucks, around 5k last time I heard for it to be done properly.

If you want to keep it stock, the petrol 2.1 was the most powerfull engine fitted to the wedge. the 1.6td isnt going to win any drag races.

I run a 2.1 camper syncro an pile loads of stuff in it and take the trailer and it returns around 22mpg. I have never had it over 24mpg (but i average my mpg over several fill ups so its less sporadic).
I have a syncro single cab which runs a 1.9td AAZ, an aftermarket conversion, probably the lightest vehicle you could get (along with an empty panel van) in terms of good fuel economy but unaerodynamic, and it gets a hairs breadth under 30 (29.9mpg).

Thats a big difference in the running cost per mile, but there is also a big weight difference between them.

Many people have a lot of success with LPG so thats a helper on the petrol.

there are alot of things to consider when looking at a syncro, so as said above, take someone that knows what they are doing and also try and see as many as possible before committing. You'd be amazed how quickly a synco will empty your pockets.

My 2.1dj panel van returns 27mpg, but that's after investing in a decent engine with only 15k miles on it from new (not a recon). My old engine returned 16.5 mpg with the old engine on the same route....

I have 2wd 1.9dg caravelle, that returns 24ish.

If your looking at Syncro's, mpg would be the last thing on my mind. You could buy a nice diesel, but need a new gearbox 6months down the line. This would offset any fuel savings over a few years!

I would find the best syncro you can afford, good gearbox, good vc box, good front cv's , diffs etc. The £'s you put aside for repairs could then go towards an engine upgrade, if you think your syncro stuff are ok...

I bought my 2wd for £1300, it's never let me down and is perfect.

My syncro cost 4x more and is just a RHD panel van. It's had £5k spent on it in the last 3 years...

I could have bought a decent 2wd camper for the money, but it would be a syncro
