Photos - Front Syncro Mudflap Placement - Year Specific?

Post by Mickyfin »

Just curiosity getting the better of me again folk's.

Looking through the various photos of both Syncro, and non-Syncro T25's I have noticed that the position of the front Mudflaps vary.

On mine, they are fitted in direct line of the front door outer edge, and the fixings are accessible from within the front wheel arch. Now on some others, I notice that the front mudflaps are fitted a few inches further back, which got me thinking, how are thee fixed, and how would one get to their fixtures?

Examples.....

Mine ( I also have the small splash guards fitted.

Another example...

See how its slightly further back?

yours have been added later and fitted in wrong place cos that easy, accessing the fittings through the b pillar is a pain but obviously doable, that's how VW did it

Ah, I see, so thats why. I guess thats why there are no rear mudflaps on mine, nor any holes where they would go. Thanks for clearing that up for me mate :ok

Have a look on the inside of the van, if you look low down on the inside of the pillar you will see a factory black rubber disc. This was put there by VW so you can tighten the nut on the end of the threaded bolts that screw into the mud flaps and fit through a drilled hole in the outer panel if you want one. You will find in most of the UK built campervans that the converters just built chip board units over the rubber bung or stuck smelly carpet over it, so you would have to take out the whole interior out or rip stinky cat wee smelling carpet away to fit the VW mud flaps. Of course Westfalia and its direct connection with VW had thought of this and have left access to the rubber bung in the cabinets and didnt use carpet, so you can still fit the VW mud flaps with ease.

Cheers Jed, I will take a look, and if that rubber grommet is there, I may just as well relocate my front flaps, and also fit a pair of rears too once I have completed the bodywork later this year. Being a perfectionist, I also plan on relocating my radio antenna too, which is about an inch to the right of the OE fittment, and remove that darn pilla mounted crap, and add a genuine aerial from Mr Baxter.
