1.7 diesel oil light

Post by Beastypete »

Hi new to this site so I hope you guys can help. Got a 1990 crew cab with 1.7 diesel, had a couple issues with oil warning light and buzzer coming on usually after a run on a motorway. We are talking normal conditions oil is at the level, outside temp fine and the water temp is normal and journey only about 40min normally. I've looked at the wiki and this sounds like its the high/low gauge? (if I read it l correctly) the warming is always with the buzzer and only happens after a motorway run. Any ideas?

ER..... I've never had that so can't help much I'm afraid, How fast do you go on your motorway run, Got to treat her gently, she's getting on a bit remember, are you using a good quality engine oil, could it be low oil pressure or level? Bet there is someone on here that will have some ideas.

Have you tried changing the oil - just a thought? I had the same issue on mine when I bought my camper, and nailed it down to a faulty sensor in the engine bay - check for any loose wires as the connections do become rusty!

Thanks for the replies, I'm only driving about 65 mph and changed the oil 4 months ago. Was woundering could It be the pump failing or the oil thinning out due to high temp?

Hi I had this on my 1700 d too. I used some engine flush and gave it a good muck out and then used some decent oil to fill up and I have not had any more problems since so may be some sort of blockage....mine used to do it when decelaerating after a run and round round abouts. But like I say flushed it and not come on since... Hope this helps. Gareth.
