Check list for non-working Central locking?

Post by KarlT »

Had abit of a search round but can't find a faulting finding thread/wiki on getting central locking working. What to check first & order to work in etc etc.

I've got a twin-slider with 5 cl motors that don't work.
All doors unlock/lock with key.
There is power to the front door motors.

Looks like someone has tried to force drivers lock with a screwdriver at sometime. :x

:ok

Yeah, locking knobs go up & down, so not seized. Its not remote locking, but key does unlock each door.

Any ideas how to proceed?

Are they getting 12v, is the fuse okay.
Are they earthed okay.

My system has one earth and one power feed (fused) if any one of those two is not in order - no CL.

Thanks, Yeah they are getting power (fronts) but haven't checked earths. Do they earth to those earth trees, behind fusebox?

Mine earths off one of those tree (crowns).
It's usually a brown wire.

If there's 12v at the motors they are probably missing the earth.

Okay, Checked earth, cleaned up, looks good. Power to front locks. WD40 movement. Nothing.
Love to get them working. What now? Testing every motor? Is there a relay?

I have some wireing diagrams here.

Its a while since I took my CL apart, but I'll try and give a few pointers.
First, the system only locks from the fornt doors, The slider and the tailgate have remote locks but wont lock the other doors.
There is a sliding contact in each front door lock motor supported on 2 flimsy springs, these rust away stopping the system working.

Cheers for taking the time Tony. I think I'll have to remove motors & see what is going on.
Had another look round & took a couple of pics....

These are the wires coming from the drivers door. All seems/looks good but I have no idea what the two unconnected are for (mirror loom?) there is nothing for them to connect to. Anyone?

Also view of top of fuse box, anyone know what the two big red wires on the right, would be for?
