ECU

Post by markr »

I have been installing a 1996 Subaru Sport EJ20 into my T25 for about a year now, but have failed to make it run, I have used RJES kit throughout, but the problem was that I bought the engine alone with no wiring or ecu!

I have been unable to establish what is the correct ecu as the previous owner of the car/engine has sold it on, i am using a 3G ecu from an Imprezza sport but do not know if matches my 1996 engine, would anyone have a clue what the correct ecu may be ?
I have also tried a T8 unit but no luck.

I have fuel but no sparks.

It has got to the point where I an thinking about starting from scratch again, the engine was a good buy but has caused untold grief.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

3g ecu should be ok ,did you get a matching ecu, immobiliser & key (or key chip) as the ecu,s & immobilisers are matched. hope this helps Daz

Hi Daz,

You have just confirmed my suspicions!

I have no immobiliser key etc with my G8 ECU which explains a lot.

Is anyone aware of a compatible ECU that I can use or do I need a G8 ECU and transponder etc.

Many thanks,

Mark.

Mark have a look on this page

If you have post 96 parts there will be an immobiliser in there.

You also may get more help asking on http://www.vwkd.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I have a 2.0 ej20 non turbo from a 97 impeza, with 3 plug ecu in my t25,i can run it on the the ecu & imobiliser that came from the impreza (code 6v).I can also run it on a (code 8k) ecu & immobiliser that came from a 98 legacy,You can tell if the immobiliser & chip are matched to the ecu if you start the car it will run for approx 5 seconds then cut out if its the wrong immobiliser. What engine is yours?

Hi Guy,s

Thanks for the info.

My engine is from a 1996 Impreza 2.0 sport, the previous owner has told me that the car had no immobiliser fitted, I certainly was not given one, I guess that I need an ECU transponder etc to get it to run, I guess that my RJES loom will have the required connectors ( i do seem to have a number of unused connectors)

You do have a few connectors that are unused for the nps & diagnostic plug in etc,if you get stuck you can send me some pictures of the connectors you have & i will look at my loom & get back to you. Daz

Hi Daz,
I keep my van elsewhere so I cannot check the loom at present, but if memory serves me correctly there are 3 block connectors very close to the ecu in my RJES loom.

I have found a 6V ecu with key immobiliser and transponder on fleabay and am considering going down that route, I will contact RJES first to confirm that wiring will take the above, I do think that I have some pictues on my old computer I will have a look.

Thanks again,

Mark

I have answer regarding my woes.

I have a 1996 engine, a 1997 loom and a 1995 ecu.

Richard at RJES identified the ECU, Transponder, and chipset that I require as my loom is set for all those items, he has also found said items on fleabay, I just need a couple of questions answered by the seller.

Hopefully the van will be up and running soon.

Many thanks for all the helpfull information.
