Scarey Discovery! help please

Post by dieseldave »

As is usual for a t25 owner I have been having problems with my starter sometimes it will... sometimes it won't... yadder yadder...

today I had a poke around with the meter deciding that I was going to sort things once and for all and it was then that i found out that EVERYTHING on the van is powered by 1 bit of 1.5MM wire that was obviously a late edition to the van and ambles with a delightfully carfree nature from the battery in the O/S rear engine bay area (no fuse mind you - oh no not for this brave little wire) and off it toddles in and out of bulkheads around and about the odd heater hose, at one point dangling teasingly low in case any road debris fancies a go at ripping it off... and my favourite bit - kind of chucked over the top of the fuel tank following a quick nip through a chassis cross member with - and at this point I should make it clear that someone had safety in mind when they installed this little beauty - a little bit of PVC wrapped around to make it all better (I half expected to find 2 twisted charred ends wrapped around each other where it had burnt through before)

so my question(s) for you good people is:

Where should my main feed be? where should it start and finish, what route should it take and all that sort of thing...??? I haven't got another bus to compare notes with so am at a bit of a loss

I've got a feeling this bus (caravelle ex minbus double slider) used to be a petrol and was converetd to diesel at some point in it's life. The wiring in the engine bay is somewhat imaginitive and sports a wide variety of colours of PVC tape...

if you can give me the low down on the main power feed though I'd like to reroute it "properly" and give my self a better chance of not bursting (smouldering) into flames...

I'm off to fit an inline fuse before I drive home......
We're all in the gutter, but some of us are looking up at the bottom of a van

there should be a 6mm wire and a very very thick wire off the batt ,thickest to the starter, thinnest to the relay/fuse board,

which is where you added wire goes to I'll bet
