Fule pump

Post by hippy chick »

I was just going through some paper work i got with my new camper , on the the instruction manual is a hand written note saying
Note fuel pump is from a beetle and the fuel pipe is 6mm higher dont replace with transporter fuel pump. This was dated 1993.
what would be the reason of putting a beetle fuel pump in . jen

Iirc the same Pierburg mechanical fuel pump used on the 1.6 CT air cooled & 1.9 DG water cooled T25S is the same as the ones used on Beetles I owned back in the 1970/80s. Unless there is a significant difference with the inlet/oulet pipes it does sound perculiar.

Their was two types of pump fitted to beetles depending on whether it had a dynamo or alternator. The alternator version could be retro fitted to dynamo models and VW standardised on this version and fitted one with slightly different position for the fuel pipe outlets to T25's

there are two types, one has a longer push rod from the cam shaft as there is a recess on the bottom of the pump. just remember to make sure that if you ever change it that you change the push rod too to a suitable one, they are about £4 and just lift out
