What do you book in as?

Post by Captaindefib »

Hi all,

I have a Question about campsites - we previously had a caravan, which made booking in straightforward.

We now have our camper, and we are going to put a tent alongside for extra living space (it might attach to the van in some way- not sure yet!)

The pricing options on the campsites seem to be: Motorhome, Caravan, or tent, and on some you then pay extra for an awning.

So what would I be best to book in as? :?

Thanks

motorhome/campervan .. some will charge you for an awning and if its not able to attach to the van then some will charge you for a tent .. best always to ask before turning up ...

We have a camper and some times take a drive away awning. We always book in as a camper and say we have an awning when we get there. If you are to book in as a tent to save money and then be spotted sleeping in your van they may up the price! (and be a bit miffy!) :D

Does the tent have to attach to the van to count as an awning? Would it be ok if we put it up right next to the van?

Sorry for all the questions!

Usually an awning attatches to the van. Just try winging it and see what happens. :ok

Hi, what if you tow a caravan to a site with your camper but nobody is going to be sleeping in the camper on the site but you're planning to leave the site in the camper for the odd day and possibly night out around the area...is it just your towing vehicle?!

Classed as a car then, same as the plastic 4wd crap they all seem to drag their sheds around with.

And what if you tow a caravan to the campsite with your camper van, but the caravan is actually being used as a trailer, full of a large tent and other tenting equipment. You pitch your tent to sleep in and put the caravan next to it. Then, in the night it pours with rain and the tent leaks so you get in the caravan. Then some mates turn up and there ain't room in the caravan so they sleep in the camper, but only after 2 a.m. as they sat in the caravan having a drink until then. How would the campsite work out the charges for that ?

Be careful because the site licences for motorhomes and caravans are different to a camping licence for tents.

Where I live there are literally hundreds of campsites but only 2 in the whole area are licensed for tents. So if you turn up expecting to pitch a tent you would be out of luck.

On one site I was staying at I actually saw the security guards come along and rip down a tent and throw it behind the caravan next to us when the occupants were out. To be fair it clearly states on the booking form no tents allowed.

You would be much better off with a drive away awning with internal bedroom if you are going to have someone sleeping outside the van. That takes away all the grey areas and on some sites you just pay a little extra for the awning.

I liked camping so much I went full time.

just wing it.

do what you like. Park where you like...sleep where and when you like.

if anyone objects tell them to sod off. Tell them that YOU make the rules. You call the shots. That YOU da man.

tell them that you camp / van to get away from the tedious aspects of life...not to debate made up rules with some jumped up little upstart with a green cap and wellie gogs on.

its a VW thing man!

thats what i would do

then register a complaint about the noisy kids next door and the fact that the toilets are not clean.

Just one thing I never have or never will pay for a tent next to my van! I point out how much a car and tent cost's then point out there is no difference with my set up, campsite owners are just greedy!
