Hand brake warning light issues...

Post by thespragster »

Hi All,

I went camping at a site in Cromer (Norfolkshire) on new years day as they have a firework display off of the pier...

anyhoo, where we were pitched up was on quite a hill so had to "hoik" up my handbrake a bit and leave in gear just in case :s

Since then when I am driving along the handbrake light flashes on and off randomly but mainly when going up - down hills, I would imagine that this is to do with the warning lights switch or a stretched cable???

Any help most appreciated!

Ta Paul.

Hello,

underneath the handbrake you'll find a rubber cover and under that you find the handbrake switch and wire going up to the warning light. It only has to earth somewhere for it to come on erroneously - I'd check for dirt and a loose connection down there. I bet if you clean it all up and check the spade connection on the mechanism you'll sort it out.

Good luck

Ewen

Check your Fluid level as well. Mine came on when my clutch slave was leaking and the level was really low.....

Pop off the cowling housing the Speedo, Clocks and dials on the dashboard. The technique is to reach around the back where it joins the dash and pull up and it should pop off. If you do it and dont wrap your knuckles or worse punch yourself in the nose or elbow the helpfull person behind you ( all true :( ) you have done well. Its under there you can,t miss it. Have you found where to fill the windscreen washer bottle... even more fun to be had with added contortion-ism.....
:ok

To be fair that's where it is on most vehicles - just that it's the other side of the front bulkhead cos the engine's normally in the front
