carvelle rear seats to multivan bed
Hi all, happy new year ! I have an 85 caravelle with rear seats that the back folds forward. Seats in excellent condition so want to keep but would like to convert to multivan type R&R seats. Anyone know where I can buy the mechanism/hinges from? judging from pics that I have seen they appear to be different to normal R&R hinges. Any advice would be welcome thanks Alistair

Re: carvelle rear seats to multivan bed
Prob with Caravelle seats (mine is an 85) is that even if you did get them flat, they're not exactly the right shape for lying on. I'm fairly good at fabrication but gave up on that idea and built my own rear seat that drops down level with the engine hatch. That way it can carry large items and with the cushions in, makes for a flat comfy bed.
My originals were also in excellent condition but by the time I'd messed around with them,. it was easier and more logical to build a new one.

Try this thread for guidance as to the Multivan bed https://club8090.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=63060
There are two types; The one shown in thread above and the other which fixes to the floor rather than the side panels.

If your rear seat is the type with arm rests, they are not pleasant to lie on. If they have no arm rests, you may be able to fabricate something but as I say, by the time you've stripped it out, its often easier to build from scratch. I tried several things, none of which gave me any confidence that they were good enough for securing kids before I gave up and went for a welded subframe and increased the storage space beneath in the process. Few ways of tackling this but make absolutely sure its a strong fitment however you do it.

Wood can be fine but make sure everything well-braced and proper bolts to hold everything in. Good luck
