Just a quick one, does anyone know if the roof bar on my van would have been original or an extra added later, haven't used it once-just curious.
Cheers jrt.
My 1982 Autosleeper had one of these fitted. It doesn't anymore because a previous owner removed it. I still have the bolts in place, so seeing as you never use it, I'm willing to take it off your hands

You haven't got a caravelle by the way.
Autosleepers used panel vans for converting them to campers.... sorry
I suspect it says it on the log book?
Yes it does, some of the earlier MOTs say Transporter and some say nothing, when i got my insurance cover note back,it was down as a caravanette !
Well I stand corrected on the bar..
If it was a caravelle it would have factory fitted side windows, and it doesn't I'm afraid. Though Autosleeper lushed out the interior somewhat, the trim level is subordinate to the caravelle.
I have a friend who took great glee in pointing that out to me once
Caravanette is and old fashioned word for camper van, Though I'm sure there was a conversion name, kinda like Hoover is to vacuum cleaners
Thanks for the info, when i got the van i was all for removing it but my wife said she liked it and it gave the van "character"[pauly8888 if i ever get rid i'll let you know]. I offered up the excuse of wind resistence and a better fuel economy without it but i then looked at the general shape of the van and gave up on that one. I have taken off the awning though for general day to day use, it weighs a bloody ton!
