re t25 1600 ct Aircooled push rod tube renewal

hello to everyone.
i have an 1980 vw t25 1600 ct Aircooled devon camper which i salvaged from a dismantler as was going for spares. have spent last 3 months getting ready for mot and am nearly there. the problem i have got is this.
have got steady oil leak from push rod tubes. am going to replace tubes and seals anyone know how to do this with the engine in situ (as have read you can). also which are the best tubes and seals to use.also is any useful websites out there showing how to do this task as am new to all this.

With the CT lumps they are essentially a beetle engine - without removing the heads the only way to replace the push rod tubes is to cut out the old one/s and then put in an expanding one. It's a proper fiddly job but it is possible to do a head removal with the engine in situ - I only did this once to prove to myself that I could do it! - as there are a only 5 bolts holding the box/engine in place and about 5 cables and 2 fuel lines then your best off dropping the lump and then oiling off the tinware and doing the pushrod tube the old school way, it'll teach you a lot of things about home mechanics and also these engines PLUS you can get to inspect the heads.... CT engines are known for cooking heads so by removing one to replace a leaky pushrod tube you can also check the head for any damage.

As has been said these engines are beetle 2.0

Lots of advantages. Just terrible in 3rd on a motorway hill.

Bite the bullet,drop the engine, pull the heads, sort the thing. For the price of a couple of fancy telescopic pushrod tubes you can get a complete new set of mild steel tubes, the 8 large rubber seals, an american gasket set, a new crankcase oil seal, and some blingy paint.

many thanks once again for all advice as much appreciated. have got a very good mate heping me out he is big on the vw scene alas he favours the t4 which he has done up to exibition standard.he has got good general knowledge might try to drop engine ourselves. if i ony have a leak on a couple of tubes would it be worth replacing the lot.just one more quick question, how do i post pics of my bus on this site.

many thanks for your respose, the cal-look site was excellent. would you use the spring loaded ones, if so whick is best aso which seals are best.

I can't comment on the sprung tubes as I've not used them myself however I've heard quite a few really good reports about them
