well, when you wanted less heat input for one reason. or where it was an area that was say seen as in the case of the braze on this van, the construction is such that the roof and gutter is all one and sits ona composite set of panals and of course the fronnt lip thing that runs down the screen pillar so if the factory were to mig it then how to do it neat without refinishing as you cant get in the corners whereas with braze, especially when new or not been done before you use a touch of flux and is sort of flows into all the areas you apply it to, ,its then quite sparing and doesnt need much finnishing, bit like soldering a pipe I suppose.
If you have a fragile area that is too say too thin to weld then go over the whole lot with braze and its also a very good base for leading,
If you a puddle welding stuff then braze is very good as it flows in real neat and needs very little refinnish,

like this , also if you have a joddled join then you could do a real fast run of brass along that,

Cracking work.

Where did you get the rear corner cuts from. Im after a nearside from the airvent down. Tried all the usual suspects then some, but nobody has ant that are even half decent

I got all the panels that I thought mike would need.
The cut section nearside rear quarter took a year to find, but thanks to our very own trader billy 739 he got me a minter. as he breaks these old vans a caravelle came up and it was cut for me, then delivered to a show

Ta all, Jim I will call in at my fellas after xmas and have a look whats about that is fit for purpose, pm me to be more specific or if Billy has a decent bit then there you go, keep it in house is always nice I may not use this cut yet as it will depend on how bad it is under the filler,if its only the edge then may be quicker if not easier to make the piece and lead it up nice neat, shall see in the new year if not before.
Im glad the thread is of interest if for no other reason then to show how stuff is put together and if it gives a bit of insight then it may save time and effort in the future, Ive asked too many questions most of my life but I like to know why things happen ,how they happen and how best to put them right,which in turn helps prevent problems ,
what is interesting is that there are many different ways of doing things and different products out there to use and I also look at how other folk do stuff and use things and you get ideas and try it yourself and see how it goes,

Well, back to the misdameaner.
the N/side corner not as bad but makes no odds as its the same process, pickies might noit be up to much as I left camera behind so this is with the phone
Ive already added a small bit to form the inner lip

Ive left the welds rough to show where the bits are that make it up, I have added a bead of weld along a couple of the edges as this is where the previous repairer had taken a grinder to it and left it thinish...

this is with a touch over with a disc and a trial fit for alignment

not right yet, but this is better

the old repairer had pushed the front corners in to allow for the filler to cover the welds, here you can see the new panal is stood proud

where the dots are is where I have pulled it out so it fits as good as I can get it, same on the O/side

weld through primer on both sides and all the other parts


so first job in the morning is finnish this bit off.
then maybe hack the lower front panal rot out the way.

My Van had a whole front nearside quater panel fitted sometime in the past, but the welder left his Welding clamps under there till I found them last year...
