PLEASE HELP! Towing advice?

Hi all, im soon to be the proud owner of my first syncro t25, i have recently bought it off german ebay and will be going over to collect in a few days, however the van in question is complete MINUS the engine (apparently used to have a scooby doo lump in it) and i have been assured that the rest of the transmission/drivedrain is all there. What i am after finding out is weather i can safely A-frame it home? or if a trailer is preferable given its current state, and also being a newbie i have no idea if the gearbox mounts (if any??) by themselves will be ok to hold it all together for the trip home should we decide on the A-frame. we were quite prepared to remove the prop shaft when we arrived if nessasary also....
ANY advice on this would be greatly appreciated and hopefully by the time i get it back here and up and running itl be one more syncro gracing UK shores!

if no engine then you need to secure the gearbox at the engine end as normally the engine mounts do that job, not that easy to do securely as the fuel tank is directly above it, as for A-frame legality that's upto you to argue with any plod that pulls you in any country you are in

Probably better to trailer it IMHO, the Germans are quite strict when it comes to traffic regulations (especially on the autobahns ) even regards tyres never mind towing.

I'd say trailer it - towing even on an A frame is getting more and more dubious.

ok cheers guys thats kindof what i thought, was just trying to save money on the ferry crossing if i could, thanks for the advice

UK law states you can only use an A frame to tow a broken-down vehicle to a place of safety/repair and not for transport. I expect, as others have said, that the Germans at least will be more strict and many more UK Police forces are picking up on this. In the UK the vehicle towed must be road legal as a car as well as complying with trailer regulations. Altogether easier and more legal to trailer it!
